Havana, Cuba, just shortly after the event known as the "Bay of Pigs", Abner R. Calleiro, the patriarch of the family, was forced to abandon their country from the imminent reality of the dictator, Fidel Castro. Having fled to Spain, the Calleiro's eventually ended up moving and connecting with family in the US, living in Miami. In 1963 the realization of starting a life all over again, with a family of (5) was upon them and many of the details were pointing them towards the up and coming city of Atlanta. The youngest of the Calleiro's, Joel Calleiro was born in Atlanta and the unfolding of the new journey was in place.

Abner R. Calleiro was a machinist by trade, at that time, Atlanta presented many more opportunities for jobs of this nature than Miami. A very brave move, Abner relocated his family to Atlanta, was eventually hired by Delta Airlines and went on to work there faithfully, until his retirement.

Sons of Abner, Ruben & Joel are graduates of Auburn University and accomplished a level of education way beyond that of their parents. The opportunity the US gave the Calleiro's is something they haven't taken for granted and understand that the new journey, although as unsure as it was, was filled with many blessings and forged the resilient character ever present in the work ethic of their company, Calleiro Bros., Inc.

Ruben and Joel have a very unique relationship. After graduating from Auburn University, Ruben came back as a teacher at their high school. For almost 5 years Ruben was Joel's teacher. From being his football, wrestling and soccer coach, Ruben also taught the industrial arts; drafting, mechanical drawing, as well as beginning up to advance woodworking. The very early stages of what would become the first company, Anything in Wood. Ruben and Joel both are master carpenters, with the ability to design and make cabinetry and custom furniture. As Joel went on to continue his education at Auburn University, Ruben contunued his passion through Anything in Wood. Anything in Wood launched forward in making custom cabinets, custom furniture and also began unfolding into the remodeling sector of construction. The custom woodworking was to be a prevalent characteristic of these early projects. The quality and workmanship set in motion Anything in Wood to larger more complex remodels. Honing the craft of his industrial arts background, Ruben, landed his first custom home. Realizing the new projects were bigger than just his woodshop and needed expanding, Ruben was inspired to create Calleiro Bros., Inc. Who else, but his own brothers were better fit to help push this story further. Through the years every one of the brothers had a role in Calleiro Bros., Inc., however, since graduating from Auburn University in 1990, Joel was to be the greatest contributor with the initiative to provide every role from project superintendent to office administrator.

Ruben and Joel continue to push their life's story forward. The years have sharpened their business skills and experience has taught them the importance of communication. Whether that be to one of their faithful subcontractors, one of their partner venders or to the cornerstone of each of their projects, the owners. Appreciative of the lessons they have learned, both Ruben & Joel continue to perfect the process involved and the complexities that make up the custom designing and build market. A true custom project is a blend of many choices and as unique as each owner. Both of them are very optimistic about what the future holds for the Calleiro family.

Today, Foreign Accents, Inc., under the supervision and direction of Joel Calleiro, is still designing, permitting and executing 

new projects in Atlanta & surrounding areas. Joel is truly looking forward to and excited about making a difference in his new community of Opelika, Alabama. With his "Orange and Blue" roots, to sow his talents and experience in both Auburn and Opelika is a unique and awesome opportunity to add to the story of their lives.
